Amazon Listing Images for Pet Product Brands

The short answer

Pet is the category where the buyer measures someone else, so the size chart is the listing. A chart that works publishes the animal's measurement and the product's own dimensions, uses exclusive bands, states a rule for buyers between sizes and highlights the current size per child ASIN. The HoneyCare dog wrap does the first and last of those well and the middle one badly: its S runs to 19 in while its M starts at 18 in, which hands the guess back to the buyer. Breeds belong beside the numbers, never instead of them.

Pet products carry a sizing problem no other category has: the buyer is measuring someone else, and that someone will not stand still. Breed is not a measurement, and a shopper who guesses is a shopper who returns. The bestsellers that handle this well do one specific thing — they publish both the animal's measurement and the product's own measurement, in the same frame, in slot two or three.

What a size chart that works actually contains

The HoneyCare All-Absorb male dog wrap gives its third gallery slot to a frame headed "FIND THE RIGHT FIT": a four-row table, XS to L, with three columns. First, dog waist size — 6–13 in, 12–19 in, 18–25 in, 25–29.5 in. Second, a breed silhouette per row, from a toy dog up to a Great Dane. Third, wrap waist size — 16.5 × 6.9 in up to 31.9 × 8.9 in. The row matching the listing you are on is highlighted.

Three decisions there are worth copying. Publishing the product's own dimensions alongside the animal's is the important one: a buyer with a tape measure can verify the garment without trusting your grading. The silhouettes sit beside the inches rather than replacing them, which is the right way round, since "Labrador" spans a wide range of actual dogs. And highlighting the current size lets one piece of artwork serve every child ASIN with a single layer changed.

Two are not. The bands overlap — S runs to 19 in, M starts at 18 in — so a dog measuring 18 inches sits in two rows and the buyer guesses. Make the bands exclusive, or print the rule ("if you fall between sizes, size up") in the frame. And the image carries the line "Please check sizing instructions in the description before ordering": if your size image needs a sentence sending people elsewhere to finish the job, it is not finished.

Why size confusion concentrates here

Published return-rate figures for pet supplies disagree — the trade blogs quoting them land between roughly 8% and 12%, none publish a methodology, so we will not lean on a number. The mechanism does not need one. Three things stack up here and almost nowhere else: the buyer cannot try the product on the wearer, the wearer's dimensions are not knowable from the breed, and graded sizes make a near miss a total miss. A wrap two inches short is not slightly wrong, it is unusable.

Consumables have their own version. Nobody returns kibble for being the wrong shape; they return it because they ordered a 5 lb bag believing it was 30 lb. If your range spans bag weights, one frame should show the weights side by side with a duration estimate, because "how long will this last my dog" is what the weight is a proxy for.

Food and treats: the panel is the trust image

Blue Buffalo's Life Protection Formula gives slot five to the full ingredient statement and the Guaranteed Analysis, set as type on brand navy: crude protein 23.0% min, crude fat 13.0% min, crude fiber 6.0% max, moisture 10.0% max, then DHA, taurine, omega 3 and 6, L-carnitine, glucosamine and chondroitin — with an asterisk resolving to "Not recognized as an essential nutrient by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles". That footnote does exactly what the FDA disclaimer does on a supplement listing: it qualifies the line a competitor would otherwise report.

AAFCO model regulations require eight elements on a pet food label, among them the guaranteed analysis, the ingredient statement, the nutritional adequacy statement, feeding directions and a calorie statement. For a food labelled complete and balanced, feeding directions must at minimum state the amount to feed per weight of animal and the frequency. That is a ready-made image: a feeding table by body weight is at once a compliance element, a purchase-quantity calculator and an answer to the commonest pre-purchase question. AAFCO is a US instrument, though — on amazon.de or .fr the mandatory elements come from EU feed labelling rules, so rebuild that frame locally.

Percentages need their source in the frame

Greenies Pill Pockets leads its third image with "97% of dogs accept pills with Pill Pockets treats" in white on green. Strong claim, strong image, no source printed next to it. If you run a percentage in a gallery frame, put the basis beside it. Pedigree Dentastix shows the opposite discipline in a simpler frame — a single stick captioned "Unique X-Shape, designed to help clean hard-to-reach areas around teeth". "Designed to help" is a deliberately bounded claim about a shape you can see in the photograph, and pet products are full of that kind of callout.

Two frames particular to this category

HoneyCare devotes its second slot to a signed letter — "To Our Valued HoneyCare Customers" — explaining that the packaging has changed, with the old and new packs side by side under the labels OLD and NEW. That frame exists to stop a wave of "this is not what I ordered" reviews during a transition, and almost nobody outside pet and grocery thinks to use it. Earth Rated ends a lifestyle frame with "Pairs perfectly with our dispenser": pet buyers are repeat buyers, so one cross-sell frame pointing at the refill earns more here than in most categories. One, not three.

Where Graflio helps, and where it does not

Useful here

  • The size chart stays a table of text layers, so highlighting a different row per child ASIN is a two-minute edit, not a redraw
  • Pixel-anchored callouts hold a tape-measure line on the right part of the animal when the layout moves
  • The research pass reads competing listings' reviews, and here the sizing complaints are where the real chart requirements come from

Not useful here

  • It has no measurements of your product or of any breed. The chart's contents are yours to get right
  • Image generation does not batch in the UI, so a variation family of six sizes is still six passes
  • Generated images are 1,024 px, above the 1,000 px zoom floor but below the 1,600 px recommendation; a six-row size table wants the 2,160 px Studio export

How to order a pet set

Slot two is the size chart if the product is worn, or the weight-and-duration comparison if it is consumed. Slot three is how to measure, or the feeding table. Slot four is the panel — Guaranteed Analysis, ingredients or materials — footnotes in the frame. Slot five is the form-follows-function callout. Then one lifestyle frame, which here genuinely earns its place, because the buyer is purchasing for a relationship rather than for themselves. Then the cross-sell, if a slot survives. If you can only build two images, build the chart and the measuring diagram.

Common questions

What should a dog size chart include?

The animal's measurement as a numeric range, the product's own measured dimensions, a rule for buyers between sizes, and a diagram showing where the tape goes. HoneyCare publishes both dog waist size and wrap waist size for XS to L, which is worth copying; its overlapping bands, where S runs to 19 in and M starts at 18 in, are not.

Can I list sizes by breed instead of measurements?

Use breeds as an illustration beside the numbers, never instead of them. Dogs of the same breed vary enormously, so a breed-only chart shifts the guess onto the buyer. HoneyCare gets this right by putting a silhouette next to each inch range rather than in place of it.

Which size chart goes on which variation?

The same chart on every child ASIN, with that child's row highlighted. A shopper landing on the medium from search should see, without changing pages, that medium covers 18 to 25 inches. Keeping the chart as text layers rather than a flat image makes that a per-child edit rather than six redraws.

Do I need the Guaranteed Analysis in a listing image?

It is required on the label, and putting it in the gallery is the strongest trust frame in pet food. Blue Buffalo gives it a whole slot alongside the ingredient statement, with an asterisked note that certain nutrients are not recognised as essential by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles. Carry those footnotes into the image rather than leaving them on the bag.

Do US pet images work on amazon.de or amazon.fr?

The layout travels; the label content does not. AAFCO nutrient profiles and the nutritional adequacy statement are US instruments, and the mandatory elements on an EU listing come from Regulation (EC) No 767/2009 on the placing on the market and use of feed — which also requires a free telephone number, or another means of contact, on the pack for buyers wanting more than the mandatory particulars. Rebuild the panel frame locally, and switch measurements to centimetres and body weights to kilograms.
